Excitement was in the air at the Wesson Attendance Center. This Qualifier Event would have been our second chance to qualify for a chance to go to the State Championship, March 8-9 at the University of Mississippi in Oxford. However, we had already got our ticket to state, so we came out to check out the competition and practice our driving skills.
There was a significant difference between our first qualifier in Brandon, MS, and this one in Wesson. Fourteen teams came from all over Mississippi to this qualifier to see if they could win a golden ticket to state. The energy was high, and the teams were doing their best.
Seeing the improvements the teams had made to their robot designs was fantastic. We were able to speak with several of the teams about what they thought about the event. Everyone was excited and optimistic about their chances to go to state. We even talked with ‘Spare Parts’ member Trip about the skills they learned due to this competition.
“I’ve learned a lot in the short time I’ve been here, and I want to continue to learn more, and possibly turn this into a career,” said Trip.
Everyone had a great time at the Wesson Qualifier. Even though we didn’t go home with any awards this time, we are optimistic that we can improve our skills before we head to the state in a month. Look for us at the State Championship!
