Robots Unleashed at ERDC

Hello everyone! It’s your favorite chaotic engineer, General Mayhem, here once again to report on the latest adventures of Trial & Error Robotics. You may be asking yourself, “What sort of STEM-fueled mayhem has the team gotten into now?” Well, prepare yourselves, because this time our mission took us to Science Unleashed at the Engineer Research and Development Center!

Eighth-grade students from schools across the surrounding area gathered to meet engineers and scientists and learn about the fascinating work they do every day. The event was packed with incredible demonstrations and hands-on activities, including bioengineering with ants, methods for preventing beach erosion, supercomputers, and so much more. Naturally, our team of future engineers jumped at the opportunity to showcase a little of what Trial & Error Robotics is all about—and, of course, finish things off with a fun robotics demonstration.

During our demo, we introduced students to the basics of robot coding through an exciting game called “Human Robot.” The game featured teams of three: a driver giving commands, a “robot” following those commands exactly, and a human player responsible for loading the ball. Teams competed to guide their “robot” across the field and deliver the ball to one of our teammates before time ran out. It was a hilarious, energetic way to show how communication, programming, and teamwork all come together in robotics competitions.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by to learn more about our team and share in the excitement of STEM with us. Events like these remind us why we love robotics so much—not just for the competition, but for the opportunity to inspire future innovators and connect with our community. If you’d like to support our team, help fund future adventures, or even join us in creating a little scientific chaos of your own, be sure to check out the link below.

Until our next experiment in engineering and mayhem—
General Mayhem, signing out!
